thiswormwine, that's what I'm doing. Everyone is getting fudge and cookies, and they will like it. Exactly. They will like it and if they don't, too bad. Actually, I suspect my fiance's brother and his wife might get their noses out of joint a wee bit about it, as they seem to place value in getting presents that cost a bit of money, and they will probably spend money on us, even though its been said many a time not too. But what can you do? I've just crawled out of the cycle of credit card debt this year, and there is no way I'm spending beyond my means for the sake of a few trinkets.

We're headed to my family's across the state on Wednesday to spend a few days with my parents, my brother, my sister and her partner, and my niece (who is my favorite family member. She's one.) We'll do a party with my dad's family, party with my mom's family, church with grandma, etc. Tomorrow I have to give an exam, but after that my partner and I are celebrating solstice-- feeding the birds, eating cheese soup and gingerbread, and exchanging presents. It's our first winter married, and we're not church people (anymore) so we made up our own celebration. This is the first year in a LONG time when I have even a little money, and I am excited about gifts! Last year I couldn't get anyone anything; this year I'm spending about $15 on each of my immediate family members, and I feel extravagant. I spent a little more on my niece (more than I should have), but hey, the kid needs books!

On christmas day, I'm going to my sister's house for brunch, my mom will also be there. My mom and I are both atheists, my sister and her family are catholic, but luckily other than saying grace before we eat they are very laid back about it. I actually get along better with my sister than with my mom.
On Sunday our whole extended family will get together at a local restaurant and then back to my mother's house to open gifts.

Dinner with my parents then home. I am not a big Christmas person, and like Steve I have papers to write.
